Added Disqus comments to this blog. Does anyone have a preference between disqus and intense debate? other systems I should look at?

Thanks - I agree about "followers", unfortunately for every new real human follower on Twitter - I count 2 spambots, 2 snake-oil-of-the-day-salesmen, and 2 social media "experts".

So I think its safe to say just take your followers and divide by 6 and thats your real followers. Then divide that by 10 and thats the number of people that hear you real time - others may find you in search.

Nice post--great to see a passionate endorsement that doesn't devolve into hype. And I appreciate your point about selective following.

I might add: remember that your goal is not to accumulate followers on paper, but rather to get people to listen to you and hopefully propagate your ideas to people who follow them. Too many people get caught up in the numbers.

Finally, I'm a fan of Digsby. It might not be the most fully-featured Twitter client, but I like the way it consolidates all of my social networking accounts.
